Dear Mission Canyon Trails Community:
I hope this email finds you well. Southern California Edison would like to provide you with an update on the emergency storm repairs project at Tunnel Trail Access Road. Here are the key updates:
- Schedule Changes: Due to unforeseen weather conditions the past few weeks, the estimated completion date of May 19 is now projected for May 26. The mid-May date was based on a 5-7 weeks project schedule starting from when SCE mobilized crews to the worksite on March 3. The project remains on track to be completed within that estimated timeline, however the intermittent work stoppages due to rain caused the completion date to be adjusted by two weeks. If work is not completed by May 26, the access road will be open for public use over the Memorial Day weekend, with closures resuming on Tuesday, May 30 to complete any remaining road repairs.
We understand the importance of timely completion and are taking necessary measures to expedite the construction process without compromising safety.
- Site Progress: Crews have completed removal of road/trail blockages to the top of the Mission Canyon and are now working on final repairs from the top down to the trailhead. The team has been working diligently to ensure that the project stays on schedule while making passage safe for crews and the public.
- Drainage Enhancement Project: In addition to the storm repairs, the City and County of Santa Barbara approved the installation of a McCarthy Drain in Road Area 1. SCE is executing this project at the request of the community at no cost to the public. While the installation of the enhanced drainage is being installed concurrent with the road repairs, it has extended the construction completion date and trail closure a few days to May 26.
- On-site Safety: We prioritize the safety of our workers and trail users. Please note that all necessary safety protocols are being strictly followed on-site to ensure a secure working environment. For everyone’s safety, please continue to observe posted signage and safety directions from the on-site construction personnel.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out on the project hotline at (805) 654-7229 or MissionCanyon@sce.com. We appreciate your patience and support as we work towards delivering a successful project to repair Tunnel Trail Road from the historic rain damages. We will continue to provide regular updates on the Mission Canyon Projects website as the construction progresses.
Kindest regards,
